How AegisPDF works

Every PDF you open is processed entirely inside your own browser. Nothing is uploaded. This page shows what paid users need to do to get set up, and how you can prove the privacy claim for yourself in about a minute.

Getting set up

The free tier needs nothing: just open a tool. Pro and Team unlock the advanced features (Find & Redact, OCR, Protect, Forms, Edit). Here's the one-time setup for each.

AegisPDF Pro (individual)

  1. Subscribe. Pick Pro on the pricing section and check out. Payment is handled by Lemon Squeezy (our Merchant of Record).
  2. Get your key. Your Pro license key arrives in the Lemon Squeezy email receipt right after checkout (check spam if you don't see it).
  3. Activate. Open Your license, paste the key, and click Activate. Pro unlocks on that device immediately.

One subscription covers up to 3 devices. Pro re-checks online every few days and keeps working offline in between. Moving to a new machine? Use “Sign out this device” on the license page to free a slot.

Team admin

  1. Buy a Team plan. On the Teams page, choose your number of seats (3 minimum), monthly or yearly, and check out.
  2. Sign in to the admin console. Go to team admin and sign in with the order number from your receipt / confirmation email plus the email you bought with. There's no separate account to create.
  3. Generate join codes. Create one code per seat and hand a code to each member (Slack, email, however you like).
  4. Manage anytime. Add seats (prorated and usable right away), remove seats, revoke a seat to cut off a member, and see how many devices each seat is using. It's all in the console.

Adding seats charges a prorated amount now. Removing seats takes effect at your next renewal. Members keep access until then, so there's no mid-period surprise. Need someone gone sooner? Revoke their seat.

Team member

  1. Get your join code from your team admin.
  2. Join. Open Your license, find “Have a team code?”, paste the code, and click Join team.
  3. You're Pro. Every Pro feature unlocks on that device. No account, no email, nothing to pay.

Your single code works on up to 3 of your own devices (laptop, desktop, and so on). It isn't a batch of licenses to share: one member, one code. If your admin revokes your seat, access ends at the next online check.

Verify the privacy yourself

We say your documents never leave your browser, but you shouldn't have to take our word for it. Because everything runs on your device, you can check it yourself. Here are two simple tests, easiest first.

Test 1 · easiest

Pull the plug

  1. Open AegisPDF and load the tool you want to use (this lets the app finish loading).
  2. Now turn off Wi-Fi / unplug the network, or switch on airplane mode.
  3. Load a PDF and keep working: redact, merge, edit, export the result.

Why this proves it: if your file were being sent to a server for processing, nothing would work with the internet off. It all keeps working, because the work happens on your device.

Test 2 · see it for yourself

Watch the network

  1. Open your browser's developer tools (press F12, or right-click the page and choose Inspect), then click the Network tab.
  2. With the Network tab recording, load a PDF, run a tool, and save the result.
  3. Watch the list of requests: you'll see the app's own code and assets load, but no request that uploads your document.

Why this proves it: a tool that uploaded your file would show a large outgoing request carrying it. There isn't one. Your PDF never becomes network traffic.

The things that do cross the network

Being straight with you, two things do; neither carries your documents. The first is licensing: Pro and Team talk to our licensing server when you activate and during the periodic online check. If you inspect those requests in the Network tab, the only things they carry are your license key (or team code) and a device fingerprint. That fingerprint is a one-way hash that identifies the device without revealing anything about it. Your documents, their contents, and anything you detect or redact are never part of it. The free tier makes no licensing calls at all.

The second is feedback you choose to send. If you use the feedback form, your message (plus your email, if you add one for a reply) is sent to us, along with the page you sent it from and your browser's user-agent. That's only what you decide to type; your documents are never attached.

That's what we mean by evidence, not a promise. The privacy claim is something you can check, not something you have to trust.
